Edward Hopper’s “Morning Sun”

Infinity

can be learned
in the quiet

stretch of morning
that suns on and on

even while people
lose their homes,
lose their keys,
lose themselves in a crowd.

Answers
will not be found
on the windowsill
nor on the window.

Look
as much as you want
but glass is only glass-like
at very high temperatures;

the temperature of your gaze
suffused with opaque desperation
will not suffice to mold
that which does not want
to be molded.
